One spare or no keys at all?
Say whether there is a working spare, a damaged original or no remaining key. If a fob is present but the car does not recognize it, describe the exact behavior rather than deciding that a new key is the answer. A replacement request may involve cutting, electronic compatibility or another fault that needs to be distinguished first.
A photo or the name printed on a fob may help a later discussion, but model year and vehicle details still matter. Do not share personal vehicle documents in public messages. Ask what information is needed and how to provide it appropriately when you call.
Confirm the proposed result
Before approving work, ask what the replacement will do: unlock the doors, start the vehicle and, where applicable, operate remote functions. Confirm which functions are included, whether your existing spare will remain usable and whether any missing-key concern can be addressed for that particular system.
Support varies by vehicle and key setup. This page does not establish compatibility with every make, model or fob. Give the exact details before relying on a replacement option, and ask what happens if inspection shows the vehicle needs a different approach.
The vehicle's location matters too
If the car is parked away from home, identify where it can be found safely. Andrew Brown East and Central have different approach addresses, and a general park name may not be enough. Our parked-car guide explains the useful street, entrance and parking details.
Have evidence that you are entitled to obtain a key for the vehicle. Ask which ownership documents and identification are required before arrangements are made. If the key is simply locked inside, start with the car locksmith page; that may be a different request from creating a replacement.
Agree the scope before the work
Ask for the proposed work, the charges and any limitations to be explained together. Clarify what would change if the key type or vehicle condition differs from the initial description. Keep the finished key and any remaining spare organized so you can check the agreed functions at handover.
